My favourite movie…EVER
My favourite film: Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet”.
I guess this film was the catalyst for my jump into TCM during my year 9, although I had been watching it before Jan of 05 (When I considered R&J to be my favourite film), it did bring a love for me towards classics, however it also helped start my obsession with R&J my Freshmen year. This film is the epitome of how R&J should be presented not only in a film, but in the theatre as well. Needless to say I despise the 1996 version. I have two copies of this film’s soundtrack on LP, 2 copies of it on DVD, an authentic poster in my room in SF, and I decided to grow out my hair like Olivia’s, and it’s at her length. Finally.
The film really brings the play to life, you have two actors playing the leads who are the appropriate ages themselves to play the characters unlike Cukor’s 1936 version with Leslie Howard who was born in 1893 playing Romeo, who is supposed to be 16 years-old! He was 43 in 1936!!
