Half the people I went to high school with are stupid white trash that conceptualize their own middle class woes as “priorities” and in turn trivialize everyone else’s feelings. For example:
”I don’t think blacks should get scholarships. THEY aren’t slaves, their ancestors might have been, but…
White trash is a racial stereotype. WOAH THE IRONY OF THIS POST. You can’t fight prejudice with prejudice. God I hate the white privilege tag.
And those people are not practising ‘white privilege’…it’s called ignorance and just shear stupidity, because scholarships for black students has nothing to do with slavery. BTW middle-class isn’t something to look at someone as being “privileged”… because the average income of all races in America…is…MIDDLE CLASS. OMGZZ. What..? You think the majority of people are lower-class? I wonder what your thought of the average income of a black person is…I don’t even want to ask.
The problem with defending white people: Everyone defends white people.
Being white and privileged means you practice white privilege. White people are the majority group in power. That means something.
America is privileged. Which makes middle class people, even the majority and of any race, privileged. No one can say that America isn’t — something we should be thankful for, perhaps, and not wish otherwirse, because that’s worse than being well-off in the first place.
Also, I cannot fathom reverse racism — I just can’t. Racial stereotypes for white people don’t mean anything to me because of this, and perhaps I am incorrect and ignorant of the truth. However, I’ve never been presented with a solid argument to prove that racism against white people exists. As a white person, I have never been treated racially inferior by people of color. My boyfriend is Native American, and he has been subjected to vast amounts of racism his entire life by white people. I was once the only white person in a school that I attended briefly: no one treated me the way I see others being treated. So when I call someone white trash, I do not feel as if I’m being racist, because, for one I am white, which therefore makes my statement merely belligerent and judgmental, but not racially slandering. Is it wrong of me to speak about my fellow alumni that way? Yes. But they are ignorant racists, and I’m not always capable of suppressing my anger. But perhaps I’m “racist” against whites, but I believe it not.
Okay so all groups count, except one group, that totally adds more merit to your argument. You can’t be for racial equality, against racism if you’re okay with prejudice towards another group. Also it’s a classist statement because you’re disregarding a group “for being poor”. How classy of you. Yay to all people who are middle class because that’s a privilege because majority of al people in the world are below the poverty line!! Also yay to self-depreciation! whooo hoooooooo
